In 2008, Alexa began working at Belkin Burden Goldman, LLP, a boutique real estate law firm, where she was promoted to partner in 2016. At BBG, Alexa represented some of the City’s largest property owners, developers and management companies in complex proceedings and negotiations involving agencies, tribunals and tenants. In 2021, Alexa left BBG to start her own law practice, Englander PLLC.

After nearly three years, Englander PLLC grew to the point where it made sense for the solo practice to expand into a partnership.  The result, Englander Bernache LLP, is a collaboration of Alexa and Damien's complementary skill sets and practice styles.

Alexa's experience includes assisting owners of single room occupancy (SRO) buildings, cooperatives, hotels and clients with buildings on HPD’s “Pilot Program List” in applying for and obtaining certifications of no harassment (CONH). She also advises on anti-harassment issues and development constraints relevant to SROs and other buildings in special anti-harassment districts.

In addition, Alexa litigates extensively before the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR), representing owners in all forms of affirmative and defensive proceedings, including substantial rehabilitation proceedings and defense of overcharge, harassment and other complaints filed at that agency, through all stages of administrative and judicial review. Alexa also performs all manner of rent regulatory due diligence, assisting both buyers and sellers in addressing concerns affecting the purchase and sale of buildings subject to rent regulation.

Alexa also represents clients in proceedings pending before the City and State Human Rights agencies, pertaining to claims of discrimination and harassment in housing.  In addition to practicing before these agencies, Alexa advises clients with respect to the appropriate handling of reasonable accommodation requests, in consideration of the relevant provisions of law and each agency’s policies and procedures. She has also performed anti-discrimination trainings required in connection with settlements before the City and State Human Rights agencies.

Alexa was recognized as a Super Lawyers Rising Star for each year from 2014 through 2020. Aside from practicing law, Alexa keeps busy raising her three sons, Oscar, Bo and Davis, as well as cooking, skiing and traveling with her family.
